Search Committee Appointed for São Paulo Branch Director Succession

LICR has appointed a search committee to identify candidates to succeed Dr. Ricardo R. Brentani as Director of the São Paulo Branch. The search committee is comprised of Scientific Committee Members Dr. Sam Hellman (former Dean of the University of Chicago, School of Medicine) and Dr. Harald zur Hausen (former Director of the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg), and Dr. Erney de Camargo, President of Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development.

The São Paulo Branch has become a leading light in cancer research in South America under the 22-year leadership of Dr. Brentani, who has also played a substantial role in furthering research nationwide in Brazil through his considerable involvement with State and Federal scientific organizations. Dr. Brentani, who will retire December 31st, will continue his association with the Institute through his work as President of the Hospital do Cancer (the Branch’s host institution) and one of the three Executives of FAPESP, the State of São Paulo’s Research Foundation.
