New Laboratory Notebook Policy to be Introduced

The Institute's Scientific Directorate is currently writing and revising staff policies; mostly in response to comments and suggestions from Branch staff, but also to comply with the requirements of funding and regulatory agencies. The Scientific Directorate is committed to producing workable, sensible policies that protect the staff and the Institute, but do not introduce unrealistic or unnecessary responsibilities. Introducing the LICR Fund (Or Where our Money comes From)

When the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research was established, Mr. Daniel K. Ludwig endowed it with essentially all of his international holdings in real estate, mining, shipping, and forestry. LICR is actually comprised of two parts: 'the Institute', which performs the scientific and medical research, and 'the Fund', which was established to further the charitable and scientific purposes of the LICR by receiving, holding and investing funds on behalf of, and remitting funds to, the Institute. Lloyd J. Old, M.D. Receives Johns Hopkins University President's Medal

At a ceremony in New York on Saturday November 6th, LICR Director Dr. Lloyd J. Old, was awarded the Johns Hopkins University President's Medal. The President's Medal is an honor extended by the university to individuals who have achieved unusual distinction, and has been awarded to heads of state, members of Congress, a Supreme Court Justice, diplomats, literary figures, academics and other noteworthy individuals. In 2003, it was awarded to the USA's Secretary of State, Colin Powell. First bestowed in 1978, the medal is awarded at the discretion of the President of the University. Read more here.

LICR in the news:
A study from Dr. Bart Vanhaesebroeck (UCL Branch), on the role of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) p110 delta enzyme in allergic reactions, was featured on several international medical websites.
Dr. Jonathan Cebon (Melbourne Branch) was the star performer in one of Australia’s top television programs devoted to science and medicine. Dr. Cebon was discussing cancer vaccines, and the results of the recent Cancer Vaccine Collaborative trial of the NY-ESO-1/ISCOMATRIX™ vaccine described in the October 2004 NewsLink.
