Search Committees Appointed for São Paulo and Lausanne Branch Director Successions
LICR has appointed two search committees to identify candidates to succeed Dr. Ricardo R. Brentani and Dr. Jean-Charles Cerottini as Directors of the São Paulo and Lausanne Branches, respectively. Both positions will be advertised in major scientific journals and nominations from within LICR are also actively sought. Applications and nominations, in electronic format only, should be sent to the head of the respective search committee, Drs. Sam Hellman (São Paulo) or Richard Kolodner (Lausanne), at the email address (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). The search committees will review the applicants, consulting with experts in the respective fields, Member representative(s) from each Branch, the Scientific Committee, and the Scientific Directorate. The committee will then interview the short-listed candidates. The Board of Directors will make the final decisions based on the recommendations of the search committees.
The search committee for the São Paulo position is composed of Scientific Committee Members Dr. Sam Hellman (former Dean of the University of Chicago, School of Medicine) and Dr. Harald zur Hausen (former Director of the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg), and Dr. Erney de Camargo, President of Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. The São Paulo Branch has become a leading light in cancer research in South America under the leadership of Dr. Brentani, who will retire from LICR on December 31st, but will continue his association with the Institute through his work as President of the Hospital do Cancer (the Branch’s host institution) and one of the three Executives of FAPESP, the State of São Paulo’s Research Foundation.
The search committee for the Lausanne position is headed by Dr. Richard D. Kolodner (LICR’s Associate Director Laboratory Investigation, and Member, San Diego Branch) and composed of Dr. Ralf Pettersson (Stockholm Branch Director), Dr. Rob MacDonald (Member, Lausanne Branch), Dr. Antonio Lanzavecchia (Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Switzerland), with additional members still to be appointed at time of press. The Lausanne Branch is the oldest of the Institute’s present Branches, having been established in 1975 in conjunction with the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research, the University of Lausanne and the Policlinique Medicale Universitaire. Through the interactions of the Branch and the aforementioned organizations, Dr. Cerottini has been a guiding force in cancer research in Lausanne and was instrumental in establishing LICR’s clinical trials activities at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV).
